Tasting Notes: La Gloria Cubana Serie N

The La Gloria Cubana Serie N Oscuro I picked up on my way home from Winston-Salem. It was a delicious smoke with flavors that reminded me of dark chocolate, coffee and a bit of leather. Unfortunately, I must not have chosen well, this cigar had one of the worst runners I've ever experienced and when the ash made it to the monogram the entire wrapper began to come off. I'd recommend it anyway, great taste and a good smoke, but choose your stick wisely!

Pipe Drawer

So my little Ford Escape was totaled after my trip to North Carolina.  I had to buy a new truck, so I got a 2014 Ram 1500.

Much to my surprise, I found a drawer under the dashboard that is the perfect spot to stash two pipes, a tin of Frog Morton and a couple lighters or matches!  Well done Ram!!!

My CVS Haul

I've been meaning to share this photo. I'm sure everybody knows by now that CVS Pharmacies have decided to stop selling tobacco products and they put everything on clearance. I was able to buy everything in this picture for less than the regular price of two tins of Captain Black!  Anybody wanna trade?

While trying to get this vintage hand plane thing figured out, I've been smoking Sutliff Private Stock's Academy in my Missouri Meerschaum Bent Diplomat. I highly recommend corn cob pipes to anyone!  I absolutely love mine!  Easy to pack, nice open draw and a completely neutral taste once they're broken in.  Sutliff's Academy has easily become my go-to tobacco, too.  I it has been the perfect bridge between aromatic and English blends.  It almost reminds me a bit of woodsmoke (to my very UN-trained pallet), a bit like cedar, and there is a little bit of a sweet, vanilla-like topping.  Even the room note is very pleasant.  I was quite surprised when my Little Girl (read: significant other) very much enjoyed the aroma after being so put-off by cigars.  Both pipe and tobacco are high on my "Recommend" list so check them out. I'd love to know what you think.  And if you can suggest another tobacco in the same realm as Academy, I'd really like to give it a try.
   Happy Puffing!
